Pavement & Materials Engineer
DBI Consulting Engineers is looking for a motivated Pavement and Materials Engineer who is well-versed and adaptable in their profession. The person will be responsible for providing specific engineering services for SANRAL projects, that include designing, construction monitoring and project management duties.
Project
Duties
- Ensure that business Quality protocols and procedures are followed and follow up with key stakeholders on any issues that arise.
- Ensure that all activities and operations are carried out in accordance with relevant regulations and legislation.
- Assist clients with technical issues.
- Perform visual assessments of road pavements and analyses of destructive and non-destructive pavement investigation data.
- Calculate traffic loads for pavement and restoration design.
- Hot-mix asphalt surfacing selection and design.
- Design surface seals for rural and city roads.
- Design of bituminous pavement repair.
- Flexible and stiff pavement structural designs for urban, interurban, and rural roadways.
- Assist and facilitate the tendering and adjudication process leading up to contractor selection and site handover.
- Plan, organize, and oversee discipline-specific project design, procurement, and construction.
- Assist with technical design assessments for the Transport Engineering Department when needed.
- Assist with multi-disciplinary tenders and contribute to the drafting of tenders.
Required Experience
Knowledge & skills
- Eng, BSc Eng or BTech degree .
- Professional Registration with ECSA as Pr.Eng or Pr Tech Eng will be advantageous
- Minimum 5 years’ experience.
- Roads experience with SANRAL and the Provincial Government.
- Project management and project financial management
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of the discipline’s essential requirements as well as the fundamental requirements of other disciplines.
- A thorough understanding of pavement materials, concrete, and surface aggregate is required.
- Familiarity with various construction framework contracts.
- Contracting experience in the field of rehabilitation.
- Pavement design experience on national, provincial, and residential roads (SANRAL) (including the usage of appropriate software packages).
- Knowledge of the methods and procedures used by the Road Authority when designing roads.
- Knowledge of road asset management systems, economic analysis with HDM-4.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D, MS Projects, AutoCAD, MS Word & MS Excel.
